The St. John's athletics program emphasizes inclusiveness. When students enter Middle School in fifth grade, all are encouraged to participate in athletics. Our program contributes to character building, teaches teamwork and stresses good sportsmanship. We want all students to have a place to play and a level of competition at which they can achieve personal growth and success.
St. John's teams compete with area private schools in the Junior Independent Athletic Association (JIAA), Independent Athletic Association (IAA) and TAPS (Texas Association of Private Schools) leagues. Although we don't have tryouts, we assess students' abilities and group them on appropriate teams. Fifth and sixth grade students play on JIAA teams, and seventh and eighth graders play on IAA (intermediate level) and TAPS teams (varsity level).
Last year, St. John's fielded teams - some co-ed, some single-sex - in nine sports: Soccer, cross-country, basketball, volleyball, baseball, softball, tennis, track and field, and golf.
Support our young athletes by attending a game!
Lower School students play together on YMCA and Spring Valley Athletic Association (SVAA) teams. Parents work together to form teams at the beginning of each season. For more information, please contact the White Rock YMCA, the Lake Highlands YMCA or SVAA.
