Does the school provide financial aid?
We offer financial aid to students on the basis of demonstrated financial need. Financial aid is also based on the availability of school funds.
Do St. John's students wear uniforms?
Students at St. John's wear official school uniforms that must be purchased through the Parker Uniform store or at the Parents Association's semi-annual uniform resale.
Do St. John's students attend chapel?
Kindergarten through eighth grade students attend a form of chapel each day. Students workship together on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, Lower School students attend a Lower School chapel service. On one of those days, Middle School students attend a Middle School chapel service, and on the other they attend a chapel advisory session.
Do we have to be Episcopalian to attend St. John's?
No; we encourage families of all religions to apply to our school.
How large are the class sizes at St. John's?
The average class size in pre-k is 14. Kindergarten averages 18 students per class. Five full-time early childhood teacher's aides assist the pre-k and kindergarten teachers. The average class size in first through eighth grades is 18.
How many field trips do students take a year?
St. John's encourages hands-on learning. Students in each grade level can expect to attend three-to-five city-based field trips a year. In each year after third grade, St. John's students travel overnight to various locations that complement the academic curriculum.
- Fourth Grade - An overnight trip to Austin focusing on Texas history
- Fifth Grade - An overnight trip to the Texas State Observatory in San Marcos with a focus on science
- Sixth Grade - a three-day trip to Camp Champions to build teamwork and confidence skills
- Seventh Grade - A three-day trip to the Johnson Space Center in Houston and a Galveston swamp trip
- Eighth Grade - a week-long trip to Washington D.C. focusing on American history
Is preference given to sibling and parishioner children?
Admission to St. John's is primarily based on the student's qualifications. However, when all factors considered are equal, preference is given to applicants who have siblings at St. John's or are parishioners of St. John's Episcopal Church.
How would you describe the faculty at St. John's?
The St. John's faculty is one of the most qualified in the area. The teachers bring years of wisdom and skill into the classroom every day. Many members of the faculty and staff are club sponsors and coaches who bring their excitement and enthusiasm for learning to the extracurricular activities.
Does St. John's have an after school program for my child/children?
Yes; St. John's provides after school care for our students until 6:00 p.m. on school days. Fees are listed on the tuition schedule.
Where do St. John's students go to high school?
Our eighth graders are some of the best prepared students in the area. Historically our graduates are accepted by their first or second choice of high schools, and most students are accepted by more than one high school. Recently, students have attended Bishop Lynch, Booker T. Washington, ESD, Greenhill, Hockaday, Jesuit, Lake Highlands, Parish, St. Mark's and Ursuline.
At what age does pre-k begin?
Children must be four years old by September 1 to enroll in our pre-k program.
